Many thanks to Tony Bull, Brian Bold and Andy Roland for supplying some names that I'd forgotten - also a picture - see below, and now we have... Malcolm Shuttleworth... Working at ICL Harrow From approx: 1-Jan-65 to approx 1-Jul-67 - Cannot remember why I moved from Putney to Harrow think it was like this . OUP Oxford University Press (OUP) were a new 1500 client in ?Cricklewood? up on the North Circular just south of the Welsh Harp. I think they needed someone to organise their operations and I was deputed by Putney to do the job!
Update...Update... November 2008 - Peter Eagles sends the following....
Hello Mike,

Here are some names to replace question marks
in your OUP worked at site.
The site was at Neasden (as frequently
mocked in Private Eye!).
Wendy Burgess was the DP section's secretary
(now Wendy Eagles!).
Harry Lawrence, a freelance programmer, was the
father of the young lady maths genius. I believe he taught her himself at
home. I was most impressed with Harry. Whilst all the other programmers wrote
their assembler (FAS) programs in pencil and consumed many rubbers (erasers
for your US readers), Harry used a Parker 51 fountain pen. Presumably he
couldn't understand why anyone might want to change what had been written.
Jane Butt was the Chief Programmer. I believe
she married the consultant from PA whose name we can't remember.
Paddy Sheenhan (?) was a programmer with a
wicked sense of humour.
Fred Lockhart was a smart dresser (for a
programmer) who had an injured leg.
Mary Peters was a programmer who went on to be
a DPM somewhere.
Brian Taylor was a systems analyst
Bob Frampton was Operations manager (I think).
Frank Legroux was a freelance programmer there.
I remember helping to arrange a party for
the programmers, possibly to celebrate "going live". We booked a pub
restaurant in Wembley near the tv studios for a "Programmers Party". We
couldn't understand why the pub really pulled out all the stops until it
clicked: They thought programmers were high-flying executives from the tv
studios!
