Wow!! Take it easy - I guess you didn't wish for the right things back in New
Year of 2008...??
Glad to hear things are getting back to normal (a bit), something like that must
affect your whole life (everything you want to do) for a year or more...??
Things here are fine.... Janet and I are just back from Hong Kong and Manila -
we go every year to visit her family in and around Manila... Big success of this
trip was getting a plot of land that Janet had bought a few years ago - swapped
for a much, much better plot - Janet will want to start building a house there
during the next year or so.... meanwhile she's just taken delivery of a newly
built 2 bedroomed apartment (37th floor) in Central Manila - which she will rent
out... so.... we're progressing well...
Just had a quickie email from Fred Boulton - are you in touch with any of the
1900's people...?? - Jack, Chissie etc...??
That'll do for now - don't want to excite you too much,
All the best,

Hi Mike
Thanks for
your good wishes. I was very lucky with my heart problem and I obviously
must have done something right to have survived the major blockages.
I am in good
health now, except for back problems which I have had for some ten years now.
My specialist looked at my MRI results a few years ago and asked what sport I
played, when I was younger. When I said first class rugby, he was not
surprised at the state of my back.
How's Fred?
May I ask, who else do you keep in touch with?
I spoke to
Peter and Caroline Chiswell yesterday and I exchange Xmas cards with Jack
Curtis. 18 months ago, Jane and I had a great trip to South Africa (first
time back since we left there in 1978) and spent four weeks visiting friends
and touring. What a great trip and we managed to spend a lot of time in
various game parks and ended up driving down the Garden Route to Cape Town
before flying home.
The only other
1900 person that I have been in contact with is Jim Cummins, who lives in
Vancouver. We re-united a few years ago. His daughter is our Canadian 800
metre track and field champion and she was fourth in the Worlds a couple of
years ago.
Take care,
Graeme
p.s. Nearly
four years ago, we moved to Collingwood, about 150 kms North North West of
Toronto. I am retired but Jane is still working. Retirement life is hectic
and I am very busy with the British car club (over 90 members) that I started
up here (www.gbbcc.com) and being Treasurer
for the local Georgian Triangle Lifelong Learning Institute (www.gtlli.ca).

We are in touch with John Greenfield who is in touch with Ron Parkin.
Also Tony and June (not sure what their surname is).
We also have lines of communication with Ann and Tom Mulligan
(in Australia) and Carol de Klerk (not sure what her name was before she
married Ludi). Carol lives here in Bedfordview and knows where to
find Pam Brown and Jim.
Ken Johnson's daughter, Claire, is a very successful singer here

January 2009 Mike,
Skiing in Niseko is not too bad, very good snow conditions, but not on a par with better european resorts in terms of ambiance etc. I have skiied in Zermatt, St Anton, Kitzbuel, Tignes, Val D'isere, Miribel, Davos, Les Arcs and Verbier all of which I rate more highly than Niseko! But overall given proximity and if you like Japanese food and hot spring baths after the slopes, Niseko is pretty good. Lots of foreigners speaking english and much of organisation is by the aussies so this also make things easy. It is a quite young resort as the excelent powder snow conditions attract quite a few young skii "bums" who cruise around the world looking for good snow and someone to pay their way around as a ski instructor or barman!
Apres ski was available but a bit limited - maybe in part because visitor numbers were down from usual. At the end of the day it is difficult to beat Europe so a trip to japan is a bit of a compromise.
Keep in touch

Hi Mike,
Yes - did make the 2 mill, but it was in drachmas..... Now
doing energy certificates - which is proving to be quite lucrative, since this
is a legal requirement now in UK for all buildings.....
The Singapore business still tries to get airborne, but seems
to run out of runway at the wrong time... Daily contact with my men there,
though, and some quite interesting products on offer. Just hope that Europe
can afford them!
Enjoy the pension - I have been getting it for 3 years, and it
just about pays for the curry bills.....
Have fun! G.
2005.....
Nice to hear from
you.... This Friends Reunited website is proving interesting in contacting old

girl friends...).
Glad to hear you're in Singapore - I do business with Singapore companies on a
day-by-day basis, and often visit. I run a small company here involved in
computer parts, and also exporting cars to Singapore (Eden Autos in Sin Ming
Road are my customers).
Still married to the same girl as when I was at 1900 - now nearly 37 years.....
4 kids, and 9 grandchildren....
Still living in Essex, although had spells in USA, Germany and Belgium.
What's your news? Best wishes,

great deal of money on an ill-fated software venture in 1993/4. Anyway, it's

21/01/2009 - Hi Mike
Just a quick one, I have worked for the past 4 days in the
Exchange Bureau, and now I have 2 days off. I am full of a bloody cold, have a
chesty cough and am going away on Saturday for a week - I personally think that
I need it!
The 350Z I bought in May/June last year and it is great, it
sounds exactly what a sports car should sound like yet is really civilised in
terms of the standard features on it. I bought the roadster with the "sports"
package (Bose sound system, black leather, electric seats etc etc..) The roof is
not a metal type roof, and you can't get that sort of system on a 350. It
converts from closed to open in about 18 seconds and it really is a neat party
trick! I am going to the introduction of the new 370Z in April and will be
curious to see how much better it is. Fuel consumption is not good because in
the main I am spending most time on short trips with a lot of stop start within
- I see from my computer in the car that I seem to be averaging 21.5 on local
trips. You are supposed to be able to get 28/29 mpg on longer trips with a
steady speed but I can't help just enjoying the whole experience which
invariably means I am going faster that I should be! The cabin is again what I
would expect from a decent sports car in that the driver & passenger are
separated by the transmission tunnel, you have a good view of the front and
where you are going, but with the top up you might have a bit of difficulty
slotting it in to a parking spot so one thing to go for are parking sensors
which are absolutely bloody invaluable. Mine is in metallic silver and as you'll
gather - I love it! If you get the chance then my advice is - go for it!
As for Alaska, Mexico etc - I just feel that life is too short
(part of the reason for buying the 350Z!) I enjoy going somewhere nice & hot and
fairly luxurious so that I can just forget all that is going on in the rest of
the world and get a great tan too! Sounds good to me.
Anyway, that's it for today, if you are interested I'll send
you a photo of 8567 DF.

Cheers
Dave |
| Aubrey Tray |
Well Well Mike - What a surprise to see my name on the internet
on a list provided by Wally Pears. I thought I would just kill time before
seeing in the New Year quietly and decided to surf the Internet looking for
nothing in particular.
I typed in my own name - I knew there has to be only one Aubrey
Tray on this planet. I knew that my old school had my name on its website but I
certainly didn't expect anything else - so was astounded to be able to
trace back to 1900 Programming colleagues.
I doubt that you will remember me as much as I remember you. I
worked in Melton Street. You were the first person I was assigned to when I
started. You gave me the most hellish task to do. You wanted a PLAN program - I
think it was for a Dutch Insurance Assessors and they provided their data on
magnetic tape which was produced on an IBM. Not only were their requirements
very complex, but the initial phase of the program was to read in the
non-standard tape and then to translate bytes into ICL character formats. I had
never worked so hard in my life. I think the project lasted about twelve weeks
and then you left for South Africa.
However, I really got to know you well in that time. I can
remember you as a cheerful cheeky chappy. I think you had a tiny
car at the time. I may be wrong about this but weren't you living in Cuffley,
Herts? At the time I had never heard of it but for the last 23 years I have
been living only a few miles away in Potters Bar.
I was already married to Elaine when I joined 1900
Programming early in 1970. Our first son was born in June 1971 and I remember
the company sent Elaine a huge flower basket to the hospital. I survived a big
shake-up in the company when two-thirds had to go early in 1971. But eventually
we were all dispersed in the summer of 1971. I then joined the Institution of
Electrical Engineers who incidentally had been a client of 1900 Programming. I
have been working there ever since and am due to retire in 2004. Our
second son was born in 1974. He graduated from Cambridge and Manchester with a
PhD and is now a scientist.
I remember well many people on Wally Pears list - not least
Wally himself. I have the utmost respect for him - his wonderful softly
spoken English diction and his professionalism. And Paul Basson now in
Monte Carlo - to me he always had that aura of success.
Well Mike at the time I send this, you will already have seen in
the New Year. I hope you had a good time - but not too good that you don't
remember it!
All the best.

vanessa.buckner@accenture.com
Morning Mr Curley
During a surreal
conversation over a glass of cheap but acceptable red wine I said as I have an
unusual name bet if I do a search on google I am the only one. So I got that
as wrong as the lottery numbers - I appear to be as common as muck (so what
friends have said for years must, alas, be true).
Anyway it was
such a boost to an old girl fast approaching bus pass age to discover that
anyone at all had remembered my name. I think I remember some of the names but
years of dedicated wine tasting have caused my little grey cells to become very
unreliable. At last I am senior because I have been experiencing senior
moments for many many years.
I do remember Ken
or was it Len who had a Ford Cortina and I drove it home for him one day for
some reason - had he known what a truly dreadful driver I was he would never
have entertained the idea.
I only worked for
1900 for a year I think but it was really useful being able to work 2 or 3
evenings a week as the old man was attempting to make it in the music business
so was only around during the day. I do also remember taking minutes at
meetings and the decision made that I did not have a drink as the minutes for
the second half made even less sense than the first!
I could go on but
will have some sympathy for you but was just so excited to see my name on the
list. I will happily upload a picture but could not see how, do you know
anyone good with computers who could advise (-:

Willie!!!!!!! Or should it be William/Bill??????
Fantastic!! Many thanks for getting in touch!! You have no idea how long I've been looking for you!! From at least 2001...... the search started out with me saying "William Skoogal Henderson the Third" must be easy to find.... and nothing came up... and only now do I realise...... wrong spelling... silly me!!
You're in Houston!!!.........Why???? Funnily enough I was supposed to be in Houston some time during end Feb and 1st May - but currently its all been changed and I'll be in Florida for those weeks - but if things change - or a meet is arrangeable - I'll keep you posted....
Good old Pam (less of the old!!) has passed on lots of news (she's been in a bad way - shame) - and she tells me - you're in a bad way too...... nothing more than that - what's up??
As to finding 1900 people - it all started out as a bit of fun.... I had retired in Hong Kong 1st April, 2000 - having just completed a Y2K project (that earned me more money than any previous contract) - and I did so love the idea - that for years I/we'd been paid to create the Y2K problem - and here I was being paid even more - to fix the (non) problem!! Anyway - my 2 daughters (both living in England currently - Taunton & Cheltenham) often said I should write a book - instead, I started putting stuff up on the Interweb.. which attracted others - and all of a sudden I was a bit central - and others were coming via me - to old/lost friends of their own.
Most notable/prolific - was Johnston - and we did have so much fun (I had to censor so much of what we sent each other, to make it palatable) recollecting... I'll give you this link to me working at 1900P - and maybe you can follow it through the various links and pages...
http://mikecurley-worked.netfirms.com/1900Prog.htm
A couple of things......
1. Anything you send me - may I put it up on my web-site?? Or would you like it sanitised before publishing??
2. I think you went to South Africa - and left before I got there - true??
I'm in contact with lots of ex-1900'ers - let me know if you want to contact someone who is not plastered on my web-site - I fail to update it sometimes...
I shall tell you some of my news/history...
Got sent to Jo'burg with Johnston around May 1970 - failed to keep the company afloat - started to lose contact with the likes of Fred Boulton, Graeme Wallace, KPJ, Dave Lewis, Jenny Morkel - got married to a German lady - Almuth - we returned to England - had the 2 daughters, lived around Bucks - same road as Paul Basson (worked a lot with him over the years) - got separated, she went to Hamburg, one daughter went with her - the other stayed with me in Denham - 1993 I get a phone call from Mike Waller - "want to do a 6 month contract in Hong Kong for DHL??" - I was there within 2 weeks - fabulous place - met Janet (a Filipina), moved in with her, we came to Singapore 2001, will retire to Manila in a couple of years.
Have recently heard from Graeme Wallace, Fred Boulton, Jenny Morkel - am in daily contact with Brian Stoate and Roger Fieldhouse (don't know if you knew them)...
Reply immediately/quickly and I'll pass on more gossip, details...
Stay well,

Married/divorced Dave Lewis, little yellow Fiat car -
found!! January 2009... Also see
here...2009..... Hello Mike, and Fred (do remember you too!)
Well it's been a while! that was a different life....
I've had no contact with anyone from then, Dave I was once told drank himself to death, but maybe not if Fred had been in contact with him -
I found your web site by googling myself. Don't mind if you publish this.
My life - I was married for 17 years and have two lovely daughters, both married and living abroad, as most of our kids are these days. One is a barrister, the other a project manager. I went back to writing software when I got divorced. Three years ago I quit my job and joined a sail boat going to Brazil as crew/cook, then crewed on yachts in the Caribbean - the focus of my life lately has been scuba diving! I've been back and forward since then and am now trying to settle down in Cape Town.

Dear Jenny
How really good to hear from you. Are you in Cape Town or have I
misread your message? I hope not. I occasionaly get down there.
My two sons! Live in CT. One (James -24+) been working for an Ad
agency and the other (Matthew - 22+) completing his honors
degree. So already two males I can introduce you to!
Anyway, as you said, a long time ago. Memories of these days a
bit hazy. The 1900 historian (Mike) will recall more about those
days. I can recall when you arrived in SA. When I introduced you
to Dave he was gobsmacked! For a change he could not speak!
Not too sure of events after that. Do remember that I was very
fond of Dave. Last time I saw Dave was about 10 years ago (+-).
Jack Curtis asked me to meet for a drink. Arrived at the pub and
there was Dave. Did not seem much interested in catching up with
the past but still able to put on the charm. But he kept
reminding me of when he let me take his British Racing Green
Spitfire whenever I had a new date (including Sue) who I stole
away from Willie Henderson. Was that the Spitfire or my good
looks?
Perhaps Mike and you can jolt my memory a bit (a lot!). Wasn't
Dave my best man when I married Jean, or was that a different
planet? Sad when memories fade. We did have a lot of fun in the
early days of 1900 SA.
Looking forward. Fred XXX Mike/Fred
It is sad when memories fade - I don't even remember the Spitfire!! or the Chrysler for that matter.
And you are right about men being useless.
I am in Cape Town Fred, would love to see you when you are here. Are you
in Joburg? and maybe I'll get to Singapore some day.

Jenny/Fred,
What an old match-maker you are Fred!! I still am unsure what
benefit Jenny will derive from having a man around....
And now - we have Fred - the young-matchmaker - introducing Dave
and Jenny all those years ago...
That's all before my time - never knew about Triumph Spitfire
etc...
But that's interesting Fred - you stole Sue from Willie - never
knew that... but I'd guess it was the Spitfire - she always did
like racy cars!!
Fred - I cannot remember being around when you married Jean....
think I'd bolted back to UK - early Feb 1973... or was I pissed??
Can remember being out with you and Sue (for example) at lunch
time - and arranging to go to the movies or dinner later in the
evening - and you'd turn up with Jean... we never knew who you'd
be with - you old tart!!
Got to go drinking.... more soon...
